One of the best off leash dog beaches in Auckland.

If you ask people where to take a dog swimming in summer they will probably suggest Kakamatua. This beach is a doggie paradise, with a fresh water stream leading out into a open beach.

Year round this beach is awesome. No matter how many people there is always space at this little beach.

We go here a few times a month the boys love zooming about.

Notes :

Car parking is horrible, during a warm weekend in summer or nice weather in winter you may not be able to park in the small car park and will have to park along the open road.

Toilets are sparse, there is one just as you exit the bush to go to the river mouth (before the path changes to sand).

Rubbish bins, there are two bins here. The first is in the bush walk to get to the beach, the second is by the entry to the toilets along the path at the river mouth.

Dogs on leash in the bush and off leash when you exit the bush.

Wipe and disinfect feet/shoes for Kauri die back at the car park in the station.

When it is low tide there is hardly any water leading to a massive mud/sand area to run around in.

When it is high tide it is very high leading to a lovely beach to swim in.

Location :

Car park off Huia Road - Slow down as you pass the turn off for Cornwallis Warf
