Picture this : Saturday morning, overcast, a slight breeze blowing, birds chirping, the odd person greets you politely as they walk past but otherwise silence.

For a busy walkway the Rotary walk is definitely under appreciated. I used to live close by and would come down with Stan (my family dog) all the time, so I thought it was about time the boys got to see it as well.

One of Auckland councils features "walks" and listed on the councils 99 paths to do, there is a lot of information around about this gem.

We only did a section of it but the path is 18 km (apparently according to the council paths page I can only find 7 km of it thought?). This path can be connected to others out east for a full day of beach and mountain adventures.

Others close by are Buckland's beach, Eastern beach, Mellons bay and Macleans Park.

Anyway we started at the Pakuranga Sail club and walked to St Kentigern School Warf.

A lovely paved flat walk and a total of 4.6 km, lots of sniffs and places to swim if the tide is in. There are a few off leash dog areas along the full Rotary walk (see red below - from the Auckland council dog walks site), however we did not go to them this time.

This walk is a perfect walk to get your distance walking started, ease back into walking/ walking with children or a pram or like us and you just want to mix it up and enjoy the tranquility.

Most of the walk looked pretty much the same so I do not have many photos. However there are multiple seats and rubbish bins along the path as well as toilets and human and dog water in some sections.

Summary :

Multi starting points - We started at the Pakuranga Sail club ( Link)

Difficultly - Easy

Path Type - Paved

On and off leash

Facilities - Toilets, rubbish bins, dog bins, water fountains, seats

Areas to swim - tidal
